Wing Chun Forms

The Ip Man Wing Chun System includes three empty hand forms, which is Siu Lim Tau, Chum Kiu and Biu Ji. One Wooden Dummy form and two weapons forms which is the Luk Dim Boon Gwan pole form and the Baat Jam Dao knife form.

Siu Lim Tau

siu lim tau

Siu Lim Tau is the first form and most important form in Wing Chun. It includes all basic techniques in Wing Chun and introduced the Centre Line theory, elbow power, inch power and the main stance of Wing Chun – the Yi Ji Kim Yeung Ma stance.

Chum Kiu

chum kiu

Chum Kiu is the second form in Wing Chun, it means seeking the bridge. It consists techniques and movements designed to bridge the gap to your opponent. Chum Kiu form teaches footworks, advanced stances and kick techniques. It is a more dynamic form than Siu Lim Tau.

標指
Biu Ji

biu ji

Biu Ji is the third form of Wing Chun. It means the Thrusting fingers. It referred as an emergency form which Biu Ji moves can help to get things back into a safe situation by recover and remain in control of the centre line when things go wrong in a fight. The moves in Biu Ji are quite deadly and powerful that can cause serious damage to the opponent.

Mook Yan Jong
(Wooden Dummy)

wooden dummy

Mook Yan Jong, the Wooden Dummy. Made from a wooden trunk with three wooden arms and a single leg. Students can refines the techniques on wooden dummy by imagining it’s the opponent and practice drilling angles, positions and footwork, it also helps to develope the hardness of forearms and fists.

Luk Dim Boon Gwan
(Six & a Half Point Pole)

Luk dim boon gwan

Luk Dim Boon Gwan is a eight to thirteen feet long wooden pole. Principle of this pole form is the same as the empty arm forms of Wing Chun.

Baat Jam Dao
(Eight Cut Sword)

baat jaam do

Baat Jam Dao, the eight cut sword is a short weapon of Wing Chun. When using a Baat Jam Dao, it follows the same principle of empty hand movement. This is because the use of the Baat Jam Dao is simply an extension of empty-handed combat.
